The Jack Of Blades by Ryn-Shar The Jack Of Blades by Ryn-Shar
Do you know why Fable II was terrible? It wasn't any of the revamped aspects, nor the gameplay. It wasn't even the debauchery that they did to the spells. It wasn't the fact that the main character was almost always hideously ugly.

No.

It was the fact that Jack of Blades wasn't in it. Instead we get a posh brit who dies in one shot. Woo. Definitely lives up the the standards we'd expect form the people who gave us one of the best villains ever. I expect a villian of Jack caliber for III.

Oh yeah, and this is my interpretation of Jack.

This is how id imagine Jack if he were in a nightmare. its just dead on how he looks with vengeance in his eyes. and ditto with your opinion of fable and him being included. he should come back, since hes the most intense bad guy of all time!

Thanks very much! Jack is a rather nightmarish character. He's essentially been planning bloody domination of Albion since forever. But, to be honest, I am much more looking forwards to Skyrim than to Albion version 4.0 at this point.

Jack of Blades is easily one of my favorite game villians: he's selfish, goes to great lengths to achieve what he wants, and he doesn't give a shit who gets in his way, and those aspects to me are what make a great villian. I really loved his voice in the original Fable; they killed it in the extension >.< Now to the picture:

I really like this interpretation of Jack; the tattered hood, the creepy eyes are what really stand out to me. I really like how his eyes seem to glow and immediately draw my attention. The red haze I should say under his eyes make him seem more demonic and evil, which really brings out his character. Back to the hood, the tattering tells me that he has seen a lot of fights, which gives him his name, and tells me he really doesn't care about his appearance but rather cares what he wants. The background, though simplistic, is really nice. It gives an eerie, evil feeling the image, which again really helps capture Jack's personality. The designs on his mask are really a nice touch, too. I really like this image of Jack, and you captured his personality perfectly :)

This is an amazing painting of Jack Of Blades, in my opinion one of the best characters in a story, and certainly the best villain. I love the luminescent eyes and details of the mask as well as the dark, whispy characteristics of his hood.

Fable 1 was amazing. If not for the gameplay, for the storyline. It was fascinating and beautifully tragic, whichever route you chose. I haven't played the second yet. Sorry to hear they butchered it so badly.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the comment. I completely agree with you - Fable had so much atmosphere and good storytelling that it didn't know what to do with itself. Thats why, despite it's flaws, fable was still a great game.

Fairly. Any game can have good fanfics if the author is creative, and willing to work magic with the characters that they are given without destroying the soul of the character. With Fable, however, I'd like to see some cannon fiction. Perhaps a book about jacks rise and fall, told from his, or Blacks, or, if they are feeling very creatives, Sythes perspective. Give background to the game. The lore that they hint at in Fable is amazing - they just never flesh it out as much as I would want.

True. I would like to see more about Jack. I mean, everything has an origin. It would be very interesting to cut away the myth and mystery surrounding him and learn exactly how he came to be the villain we all know and love.

Fable III hinted that Jack was going to be back soon, now that I've beaten it. I imagine he'll be back in all glory in IV. A fourth fable... This series is turning into another one of those franchises that they won't stop milking ever, isn't it?

Like Final Fantasy or the like? Well, so long as they do a great job on it. If they're bringing Jack back though, I wonder if they're going to set it in the same era as the first Fable, or if he's going to resurface in a different time. Could be interesting.

As far as the "main villain" aspect goes, I couldn't agree more. I thought the gameplay itself was a nice evolution from Fable1. But the story was kinda on the meh side. I mean, seriously? We go from finishing the job the first Hero of all time failed to do in defeating the last of a group called The Court, where each member had godlike powers, and Jack being the only member William Black couldn't kill, and he now has the mightiest weapon of all time, and then he turns into a freakin' dragon to own your ass, then he even still tries to possess you so that he can continue his reign of horror... to shooting a random nobleman in the face. Again, seriously? Fable2 was too short, and the story was too weak.

I did, however, have quite a few issues with Fable3's story. Of course, the main villain turns out to be worth it all. I won't ruin it for you if you haven't played; he isn't quite Jack, but he's definitely better than Lucien! If you can wade through the game, you'll be presently surprised. (Still no mention of The Court, though. And STILL no word on William Black/Scythe.)

The gameplay is somewhat better, in magic and gunplay aspects, but I personally through that the swordplay was worse. I have not tried Fable III yet, since my TV is broked. The court was cool - they would have been a badass main villain. I'm sorry, but the end fight, one that you don't even have to do yourself was so anticlimactic that it pretty much broke the game for me.

Same here. I was expecting some kind of twist at least. Stupid Reaver...

If they make a Fable4, I wanna fight William Black. Or at least something with as much godlike power as him. :D

Best rendition of Jack I've seen yet. I'm sorry to hear the Fable II sucks so much. I can't play it unfortunately because it's not on PC and i have no reason to get an XBOX 360. I won't get something JUST for one or two things, that's a waste.

Anyway, really awesome perspective!

Thanks a lot for the praise. I've got my hopes at about lukewarm level for Fable III. It could be good. But it doesn't look like Jack, or any "of blades" character is featuring as a villain, so it'll probably suck. Lionshead studios need to understand that sadistic masked psycho makes a good villain, and posh british guy doesn't.

Posh British guy makes a good villain IF said villain is played by only a select few number of actors. One being Sean Bean...

Yeah but even then, think about some guy in a damn cumberbund - even one voiced by boromir - staring down what your character looks like by the end of fable. Just doesn't work!

they should so bring Jack back because for someone that old defeating him was amazingly simple.

Thanks. I just played fable I again. It was so much better than II that it was jaw dropping. So I drew this up - slightly more tattered, and the designs on the mask are a little more intricate. I imagine he'd have looked like this if the game had been released ten years later.

I wish that series in general was a little tougher. It was literally impossible to fail at II, and one was pretty easy. Especially for a mage. I personally thought Maze was way tougher than Jack.

fable II was alright. But they didn't do justice to the spells, and the game was so unbelievably easy.

But the dog is pretty awesome.

I agree all the way |:
Fable the lost chapters was so good, and fable II let it down so much. Getting rid of the whole hero idea was a big mistake, and the magic was so bad. They concentrated way too much on the whole getting a job and having kids thing, but if I wanted that i woulda just played the sims LOL.
Jack of blades was such a beaut <3

Might make it more tempting to play a stealthy character in that case.

I saw the dog in action...it is pretty awesome how it points out nearby items.
